Regulator Marine builds center-console fishing boats from 23 to 41 feet in length with hulls and structural integrity that have set the bar for strength, durability, and smooth-riding comfort. Regulator has also launched a number of firsts, including a full-height console head, twin outboard power, oversize fish boxes, multiple hull colors, and insulated iceboxes.

Other innovations—largely unseen but key to reliability and seakindliness—have included wider chines, knitted fiberglass replacing woven roving, and the elimination of structural wood in the heavy-duty construction of each Regulator model.

Regulator’s durable construction practice has become the foundation of what the company proudly calls its “legendary ride”—the weight and depth of each boat creating a low center of gravity with the strength to take on heavy seas again and again. The wood-free stringer grid acts as the boat’s skeleton, and the seamless liner is easy to clean and to move about in. Each stringer is fiberglassed in-hull, with the liner bonded to the hull/stringer combo, and the deck cap is secured with marine adhesive and stainless steel through-bolts every 6 inches. The result is what makes Regulator boats the most sought after among today’s boating anglers.

Regulator 37

The name says 37, but with an aluminum outboard bracket and triple Yamaha XTO Offshore 450s, this boat stretches out to more than 43 feet in length.

The 37 boasts Garmin multifunction displays with digital switching and monitoring, and a proprietary Regulator MyHelm interface, digital electric steering, tilt helm, multifunction digital electronic control, Helm Master EX joystick, and EX autopilot.

The 37’s standard T-top includes an electronics box; switching for navigation, dock and general lighting; an integrated windshield; and rocket launchers. A fully equipped optional tower expands fishing options.

The deluxe air-conditioned cabin (in one of two standard interior packages) sleeps two, and its galley includes refrigerator, microwave, sink and storage. The stand-up head compartment includes an electric marine toilet with electric pump-out tank, solid surface countertop, hot-water shower, sink, lighting, and a mirror.

Raised-deck triple helm seats include armrests, flip-up bolsters and individual footrests. Aft is a tackle center with tackle storage, as well as an aft-facing bench seat for two with rocket launchers for six rods. Cockpit options include an electric grill and refrigerator.

Forward of the helm is a settee with flip-up backrests and, within it, an insulated cooler. Wraparound bow seating is attended by a convertible electric pedestal sun bed/table.

Fishing equipment includes three insulated forward fish boxes; a fish box and two livewells within the transom; two 311-quart macerated, insulated and illuminated in-deck fish boxes; abundant tackle storage; 10 rod holders in gunwales and transom; and a fold-out transom bench seat. Refrigerated fish boxes are optional.

Beneath the mezzanine seat is an illuminated pump room with fuel-tank access, air-conditioning equipment, optional Seakeeper 4.5 gyrostabilizer, and extra storage. An Onan 9 kW diesel generator is standard; upgrade to a 13.5 kW unit and you’ll be ready to add that sea-taming Seakeeper gyro.

Editor’s Note

I truly admire the 37’s massive cockpit with large in-deck insulated fish boxes, transom livewells, and fore and aft leaning-post seating with tackle storage, as well as the luxurious console interior, forward console lounge and bow seating. -Karl Anderson

Built in Edenton, North Carolina, since 1988, Regulator tests all of its boats, from the Regulator 23 to the Regulator 41, plus the new XO Series of center-console crossovers, against the challenging conditions of the Outer Banks.

The company announced new upgrades and features throughout its fleet for the 2024 model year. Several Regulator models are now available with Yamaha XTO Offshore 450s. More rod holders have been added throughout the fleet. New options include a half station tower for the 26XO, with more features throughout the line.

Regulator is one of two center-console builders to offer Siren Trident, which lets Yamaha digital electronic control outboard owners monitor and track multiple critical boat and engine systems, including battery voltage, bilge-pump activity, location, engine run time and maintenance intervals, with push or email notifications sent to the boater.

Regulator 31

The Regulator 31, fastest in the company’s fleet, is now equipped with twin Yamaha 450s. Optional Yamaha Helm Master EX control provides handling power and flexibility, and the Seakeeper 2 option adds an extra element of stability. Also new is Siren Trident with the Siren 3 Pro monitoring system standard.

The massive cockpit is setup for a serious day of sport fishing and includes an oversize tackle center; huge fish boxes, livewells and storage boxes; and optional outrigger bases with 22-foot carbon-fiber collapsible poles. A half-dozen stainless-steel rod holders line the gunwales, and many more are optional.

Other angler-focused options include transom fish-box refrigeration, additional 228-quart transom livewell, and a deluxe mezzanine tackle-center upgrade for additional seating, storage, and dual-flanking rocket launchers.

Handy features include a starboard boarding and dive door, flip-up forward seat backrests, and optional forward and rear sunshades.

Other new options include an undergunwale gaff holder, hose coil racks for raw and freshwater washdowns, clear fish-box and livewell lids, eight additional forward gunwale conventional or cup/rod
holders, diamond-quilted upholstery, teak seating accents, and more.

Editor’s Tip

Regulator is one of the few boat brands that labels its models based on the hull length versus the length overall. As a result, the 31 boasts a 31-foot, 4-inch hull. Adding in the heavy-duty bracket and motors brings the length overall to 36 feet, 5 inches. -Jim Hendricks, Staff Editor, Boating and Fishing Group

In 1988, Regulator Marine set out to reinvent the deep-V center-console experience, and engineered what today it proudly calls the Legendary Ride.

Tested against the challenging conditions of their native North Carolina Outer Banks, the tough sport-fishers—23 to 41 feet long and each built by hand—are known for superb fit-and-finish and a dry, comfortable ride.

The company is consistently awarded with industry  leading customer-satisfaction scores, and customer warranty claims on less than 1 percent of sales.

Regulator 34

The Regulator 34 boasts a space-maximizing design rivaling in roominess its 39-foot competitors. The boat offers a massive center forward storage box, two forward insulated fish/dry storage boxes, a bulk cockpit storage box or optional fish box, a transom fish box and, adjoining it, a 42-gallon transom livewell.

But it’s fishing space that really counts, and in true CC fashion, the 34’s layout makes it easy to reach the huge forward deck and the 3X Deluxe Tackle Center with rigging station.

Options include outrigger bases and poles, transom rod holders, electric-reel hookups, and an upgraded 3X Deluxe Mezzanine Tackle Center for additional seating, storage, and rod launchers.

An integrated wraparound windshield is mounted within the standard fiberglass T-top. All is monitored by a factory-installed Garmin Offshore electronics package. Options include helm air conditioning, stereo upgrade, and forward and rear sunshades. Below deck, a berth sleeps two, with rod storage and other amenities nearby.

Choose between triple Yamaha 300s and twin Yamaha 425s, tended by Yamaha’s Helm Master EX. Add the Seakeeper 2, and you’re ready for anything.

In our survey, Regulator was among the handful of respected brands current boat owners were most likely to consider for their next purchase.

It’s no wonder, with hand-built Lou Codega-designed hulls, their four components crafted and then polybonded, fiberglassed and foam-filled to create a single no-wood unit free of noise, creaking, soft spots, leaking, cracks and caulk. A boat ready for the brand’s signature, “Offshore Life.”

Standard are fiberglass hardtops, which 23 percent of offshore CC owners list as the most important convenience feature in a boat like theirs. Those hardtops welcome options such as Taco Grand Slam outriggers. Other options include Yamaha Helm Master EX controls that include autopilot, waypoint deceleration, and Multimode Set Point to hold the boat in desired position.

Regulator Marine 31

One can arm this massive center-console with a pair of twin Yamaha 300s, but an exciting new option is dual Yamaha 425s, producing a top speed of 64 mph, making this the fastest boat in the swift Regulator fleet.

The helm is served by a factory-installed Garmin Offshore Package electronics suite to complement the Yamaha CL5 display. Seakeeper 2 gyroscopic stabilization is an option, controllable via the Garmin or CL5 displays. Seakeeper is sought by 32 percent of those surveyed.

Helm-seating and tackle-center options include a new 3X Deluxe Mezzanine Tackle Center, with rear-facing seating in addition to twin forward-facing console seating.

Angling is enabled by the 31′s massive cockpit, with four gunwale-mounted rod holders that meet the demands of 33 percent of survey respondents; tackle center, in-deck fishbox and T-Top hold more.

Forward are three 200-plus-quart fish or gear compartments within seats, plus a 500-quart in-deck compartment that can also provide the lockable rod storage that 28 percent of CC survey respondents request. Within the transom are a 228-quart fish box and a 36-gallon livewell, which meets the needs of 69 percent of survey respondents.

Since the first Regulator—a 26-foot center-console—was launched in 1990 from its North Carolina factory and tested in harsh conditions in the Outer Banks, Regulator Marine has become famous for its “Legendary Ride.”

Across more than 30 years of innovation and evolution, each Regulator is still hand-built with consistency that the company says had led to customer-satisfaction scores consistently over 95 percent, as well as customer warranty claims on far less than 1 percent of boats sold.

Regulator 34

The Regulator 34 pledges ultimate performance in a true center-console design that produces space maximized to rival its 39-foot competitors.

Anglers endorse the boat’s massive forward deck, 42-gallon transom livewell and 220-quart transom fish box. (Another 400-quart cockpit in-deck fish box stands ready.) The 3X Deluxe tackle center bears a rocket-launcher rod holder. Fishing-minded options include transom rod holders, Taco Grand Slam 390 outrigger bases with 20-foot carbon-fiber telescoping poles, and additional fish boxes, livewells and rod holders.

An optional 3X Deluxe Mezzanine tackle center/rigging station combines additional seating, storage and optional dual-flanking rocket launchers.

Belowdecks, the berth sleeps two and features rod rack storage, a stand-up head with a solid-surface countertop, and other comfort amenities.

Up top, the captain and crew ride in comfort behind an integrated wraparound windshield beneath a standard fiberglass T-top with navigation, dock, spreader and interior lighting. Other comfort and fun features include Fusion entertainment, starboard boarding door with a dive ladder.

The Regulator 34 comes standard with triple Yamaha F300s (twin F425s optional) directed through Yamaha’s next-generation digital boat control that comprises electric steering, digital electronic control, an autopilot and a touchscreen display. Also standard is a factory-installed Garmin Offshore electronics package.

Regulator lists its boat model based on the usable space, which does not include the transom bracket and outboard power. The hull proper of the 34 is 33 feet, 10 inches, but the boat stretches to 39 feet, 4 inches with bracket and motors. Regulator has a way of combining hardcore fishing machismo with family-friendly comfort in a boat that is dinner-cruise stylish and stormproof reliable. As I boarded the new center console in Stuart, Florida, last month, I noted that the 37 perfects that approach.

To deliver performance, Regulator designs around Yamaha outboards mounted on a lightweight aluminum transom bracket. The bracket optimizes cockpit space. All 37 feet 7 inches of LOA on this model is boat, not bustled transom.

The outboards and bracket stretch that length to 43 feet 5 inches. The design means more comfort and fishability while minimizing weight and maximizing performance.

Sport Handling

My test boat’s three Yamaha 425 XTO outboards came with the complete Helm Master control system with a joystick that’s among the most responsive in the industry. Underway, the power steering and electronic throttle and shift remain smooth and steady, making the 37-footer feel like a sport boat at the helm.

The 24-degree deadrise at the transom and sharp stem make it cleave waves. Its wide beam settles nicely in rolling seas, smoothing rough water for a family-friendly ride.

Anglers will appreciate the wide-open cockpit with its foldaway transom seat for up to three passengers. Dual 33-gallon livewells flank an 80-gallon fish box—all in the transom. Two more fish lockers in the floor total 78 gallons each, and a forward under-seat 39-gallon compartment is insulated for use as a cooler or fish box.

Regulator placed tackle storage for rigging in either side of the leaning-post seats, providing drawers and utility-box slots. On the port side, the leaning post features a slide-out electric grill for feeding the crew.

Extra Comfort

Additional seating includes a dual lounge ahead of the console and wraparound seating in the bow, with port and starboard fold up back rests.

The cabin below the center console provides a dual berth for snoozing, a full head with shower and porcelain toilet, and an open galley area with microwave, refrigerator and sink.

The hard top not only provides a durable platform for rod holders and outriggers, its electrically activated slide-out shade provides sun relief in the cockpit.

The Regulator 37 is designed for comfortable fishing, and each boat leaves the factory Sea Keeper 5-ready. My test boat had the gyro, plus a diesel genset to run it and other systems on board.

Serious fishermen can be confident family members will be happy, cozy and comfortable on board. A starboard side door assists in boarding passengers or that big yellowfin you wrestled to the boat.
